Save the Dates: Change for Climate Community Series

EPCOR and the City of Edmonton are teaming up to deliver the Change for Climate Community Series and there are upcoming dates to mark on your calendar!

The City of Edmonton is looking to adopt a Climate Change Adaption Strategy in a coordinated effort to address the growing issue of climate change. The strategy will be a comprehensive, cohesive and coordinated approach for the City of Edmonton to mitigate the impacts of climate, adapt to the inevitable impacts, and invest in sustainable development.

A part of the development of this overarching strategy, the City of Edmonton will be hosting the inaugural Cities and Climate Change Science Conference this spring. From March 5 to March 7, the conference will bring together 800 municipal representatives, scientists, academics, and activists to address this complex issue by sharing research and ideas on how to tackle climate change.

In a lead up to this conference, EPCOR and the City of Edmonton will host the Change for Climate Community Series, which are free events open to the community. This series is a great opportunity for youth in our city to become better educated and engaged in the dialogue and action surrounding climate change in Edmonton, in Alberta, and beyond.

ART FOR CHANGE
What: Emerging artist exhibits with visual art aimed at inspiring awareness and action against climate change.

FESTIVAL OF YOUTH VOICES
What: Youth from junior high and high school will come together to discuss what can be done to mitigate climate change concerns, sharing ideas and evidence for action in Alberta.
Where: Centre for Applied Technology, NAIT (11763 106 Street NW)
When: Tuesday February 27, 2018

• Presentation #1 at 11:00 to 11:30am: Colin Waugh interviews and shows the works of local filmmakers and their videos that tackle climate action.

• Presentation #2 at 12:15 to 1:15pm: A Pecha Kucha style presentation, where students from across the world will speak to a climate change story from their city.

• Presentation #3: 1:45 to 2:15pm: students will take the stage to share their ideas on climate action, and will be joined by experts for a panel discussion.

CATCHING THE SUN FILM SCREENING AND PANEL DISCUSSION
What: A screening of Catching the Sun, a film that documents how solar energy serves as a powerful force of democratization, and discusses how the innovation of this industry is redistributing power. A panel discussion with local women involved in clean energy will follow.
When: Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Doors open at 6:15p.
