Meet Aaron

Aaron Paquette is a two-term City Councillor, internationally renowned Indigenous artist, novelist, public speaker, and educator. Aaron was first elected to Edmonton City Council representing Northeast Edmonton on October 16, 2017.

A lifelong Edmontonian and a parent raising a family in Ward Dene, Aaron Paquette is a dynamic force in Edmonton's community landscape renowned for his ability to bring people together and drive positive change. As an Indigenous artist, author, Edmonton City Councillor, and former CEO of a corporation, he has played a pivotal role in building bridges across diverse communities. His leadership has not only attracted investment to Edmonton but has also made our city a safer and more vibrant place for all residents. 

Through strategic partnerships and innovative initiatives, he has fostered economic growth while prioritizing public safety and well-being. Aaron Paquette's unwavering dedication to community building, coupled with his track record of success, has solidified his reputation as a unifying figure who transcends political divides and works tirelessly to create a better future for Edmontonians.

Aaron’s work is shaped by his passion for community building and common-sense decision making. Aaron works hard for good jobs and a thriving economy, and cares about community safety and recreation spaces for families. He works for responsible budgeting and smart planning, and is making sure Edmontonians have good and fair options for getting around their city.

Councillor Paquette developed the Council Initiative on Food and Agribusiness Diversification, and has taken leadership roles working on the Child-Friendly Edmonton, End Poverty Edmonton, Multiculturalism, Literacy, Sustainable Procurement, Watershed and natural resource protections, and helped champion a Priority Based Budgeting approach to City finances starting in 2021.

Committees, Boards, and Initiatives

  • Which focuses on delivery of City services including: neighbourhoods and communities; social development; recreational activities and facilities; cultural and social programs and activities; emergency services; and municipal enforcement.

  • Makes recommendations to Council regarding the annual performance goals and performance results of the City Manager and the City Auditor.

  • Makes recommendations to Council regarding the rates, governance, policies and operations of all municipal public utilities and non-municipal public utilities.
